Janis remains actively invloved in the fight against the disease that claimed her mother, Doris. She has served on the Alzheimer's Association board of directors, lead support groups, donated art to fund raisers, served as a Helpline volunteer and in any other capacity she can contribute.

Currently, Janis paints with Alzheimer's patients at an Alzheimer's specific residential facility in Mesa, Arizona. "Memories in the Making" is a national Alzheimer's Association program that encourages communication through painting.
